Today we focus on a species of tropical water lily, Nymphaea colorata.
Its flower is 12-13cm across and pale purple. As a wild water lily, it is prettier compared to hybrids. This African species is a parent of numerous excellent cultivars such as "Director George T. Moore", "Midnight", "King of Siam" and "Wood's Blue Goddess".
Its leaf is almost circular, somewhat different from other tropical water lilies.
It is scarcely larger than a palm. In other spesies it can be more than 20cm in diameter.
The flower of this species reminds some visitors of Clematis. It is similar both in size and appearance.
