Babies of Call Ducks started hatching!
The two on above photograph were hatched by an incubator;eggs were set at the incubator in March 3rd, and two of them hatched out this week. How cute they are!

The egg on above picture has a crack on its surface. Is it broken by an external blow?

No, this crack was made by a behaviour of the baby bird in the egg. A baby bird in an egg hits the eggshell open with a projection called "egg-tooth" on the end of its beak. When this happens, the baby will hatch out in two or three days.

"Hi, nice to meet you!"

Babies of waterfowls can eat food and swim by themselves after their downs dry out shortly after they hatch out. The one on above photograph stands firmly on its feet.
Though tiny, their feet have webs,

and toenails.

It sat on the palm of the Outer Pond staff member. It really is cute with its fluffy look.

It'll take us some more time before we can take these babies to the Outer Pond for exhibition. We'll inform of you on this weblog when the exhibition starts.

Koru the Call Duck, a possible brother of these two babies, anything to say?
コール
"Grow up all right!"

What about you, babies?

"Be patient a while, we'll soon be there in front of you!"
